DAVID TREVINO
"Coming into the university I needed some sort of income coming in so that I can help my mother financially with my school expenses such as housing, food, gas money and many more." said David Trevino, a full-time Public Relations student and barber at North Carolina A&T State Univerity.
"I had all summer to figure out what I wanted to do before coming in my freshman year. I've been cutting my own hair for about 5 months because I did not like the service that the barbershops were providing for me. Although they were great people I wasn't satisfied with my haircut because I did not get what I asked for. That's when I decided to start cutting my own hair." said David.
As time went by Trevino moved on to cutting hair for his yonger cousin. Still not satisfied with his work, nor taking cutting seriously, Trevino kept practicing and gained much progress by the end of the summer before his freshman year. "When I finally got to A&T I started telling people that I cut hair." said Trevino.
"Even though I wasn't good at all I did my best to give them a good haircut but due to my poor experience their haircuts final product looked like a 1 week old haircut." As time went by Trevino began seeing progression and was also gaining a popular name on campus. Within weeks, word about Trevino spread all throughout campus. "I didn't believe how much money I was making by doing pretty much nothing. Finally it clicked. I realized that's what I could do as a "side hustle" to have money in my pockets." said Trevino.
"Running a business where you're providing a service it's very challenging. Being a full time student and a campus barber can be overwhelming especially when you really need money but you also need the grades! Time management is the key to this business. You must set time aside for academics and your social life. " said Trevino.
Now, one of campus' most in-demand barbers, Trevino continues to satisfy his clients through his clean-cut, confidence-giving haircuts. Trevino hopes to one day own his own barbershop.
